The SEA WEASEL repair video.
I am pleased to report that WEASEL is back in action and has been wetted and taken out for a trial. Since the last report Stem to Stern Marine came down to the boat and completed the mechanical work. The broken prop-shaft was replaced as was the engine coupling (holds the shaft to the transmission) and the rear engine mounts. In addition the stuffing box was upgraded from a traditional dripping one to a new PSS drip less stuffing box (YEAH!) and a new cutlass bearing was installed (the bearing in the little arm that holds the end of the prop shaft near the propeller). After a alignment was completed the boat was lifted and dropped back in the water by the boys at Granville Island Boat Yard. The following weekend I went and replaced the broken stanchion base.
Since all the repair work I have taken the boat out for a overnight mid-week run to Bowen Island and found that the engine vibrated less and the boat was generally faster motoring and sailing; big surprise. Now it is time to get back out cruising and racing like always.
